I can’t stress enough how important it is to carry your makeup tools along with your all-time favorite makeup products. You don’t have to be a makeup artist to have the right tools with you! These little essentials can make your makeup application so much easier.
I’ll start in no particular order. FYI, all the products mentioned are from E.L.F. Cosmetics and very affordable and, in my opinion, great quality!
Tweezers — These are so important because we don’t always have time to get our brows done or remove those unwanted hairs. Take two minutes to clean up your brows with your tweezers, and I promise your makeup will look so much better!
Spoolie — I love using a spoolie on those days when I want my brows to stay in place for longer than six hours! I’ll add a little brow gel or hairspray, brush them into place, and I’m good to go. Such a great little tool, especially for those of us with bushy brows! :)
Eyeshadow Applicators & Q-Tips — These have been some of my favorite tools for as long as I can remember, probably since I first started wearing makeup! I love using eyeshadow applicators to place very pigmented, shimmery shadows directly onto my eyelids. They work almost like using your finger, but give you a little more control. And of course, Q-tips are amazing for quickly cleaning up little makeup mistakes.
Pencil Sharpeners — Somehow, even back in school, no one ever seemed to have one! 😂 But a good makeup sharpener is essential. Using dull or damaged pencils can leave rough, uneven edges, especially around the eyes. We want sharp lines and beautiful color!
Mixing Palette — Sometimes I pick out my outfit before applying my makeup. There have been so many times when I’ve mixed foundation on the back of my hand, only to accidentally get foundation on my clothes. So irritating! Then I have to pick another top, and somehow end up changing my outfit again anyway. 😂
If you have a habit like mine of mixing foundations on the back of your hand, a mixing palette can be a lifesaver. It keeps your hands clean and, more importantly, keeps your clothes safe!
Makeup Bags — Even little zip-top baggies can work! I am obsessed with makeup bags, pretty ones, clear ones, big ones, small ones… I own so many that it’s honestly ridiculous, but I love them!
I like to keep my makeup tools in one bag, my face brushes in another, and my eye brushes and makeup in another. It makes traveling so much easier, and I always know where everything is without having to dig through one giant bag.
Silicone Glitter Applicator, Glitter Glue & Lash Glue — Before I forget these! I love using a silicone glitter applicator when I want to add that extra touch to a night-out look. They’re easy to clean and much less messy to use.
And of course, don’t forget your glitter glue and lash glue when you’re going for that extra glam eye look!
Eyelash Curler — I don’t always curl my lashes because I use a lot of waterproof mascara, and it usually helps keep my lashes lifted longer. But when I’m using regular mascara, I definitely curl them. If I don’t, I somehow end up with spider-leg lashes! 😂
I also love using my eyelash curler when I wear false lashes because it helps blend my natural lashes with the falsies.
Powder Puffs & Sponges — Powder puffs are great when you want to protect your base while working on your eyes, especially if you’re like me and tend to leave your eye makeup until the end.
Sponges are amazing for blending foundation, especially very liquid formulas. Sometimes I find that certain foundations can look streaky when applied with a brush, while a sponge gives a much smoother finish. Makeup sponges have been around for years, and they’ve come a long way and they’re sturdier, more versatile, and great for getting into those little areas that brushes can’t always reach.
I hope this was helpful! Having the right tools can make such a difference in how easy and enjoyable your makeup application is.
Let’s keep the conversation going in the comments! What are your favorite makeup tools that you can’t live without? I’d love to know!
